IBN 7: Coverage of clashes at Lucknow & Kanpur

Hindi news channel IBN 7 abandoned all journalistic ethics on Sunday as it showed to minor clashes in Lucknow and Kanpur throughout the day. The golden rule was always to ensure that the news shouldn't create further panic.

But the TV channel turned clashes into live news and kept repeating the same footage for hours. In Kanpur, police had picked up two meat-sellers on the eve of Milad-un-Nabi and the next day SP MLA Satish Nigam allegedly cashed in on the anger of minority community.

Angry residents laid siege to police station and a person, Shamshad, was killed. In Lucknow, it was the old history of Shia-Sunni clash, a minor incident of stray stone pelting. However, the channel telecast it as if entire Lucknow was in flames.

The locality of Thakurganj is just a small part of the UP's state capital but the incident the likes of which are witnessed at hundreds of places in towns across cities and go unreported in national media, as a riot just because election is on cards, is absolutely unfair.

This is criminal to cash in on clashes to increase viewership and grab eyeballs. Seems the channel wants to take lead on all other competitors in sensationalising and provoking people though it may lead to panic and exacerbate situation.

Unfortunately there is no watchdog and no action on this sord of irresponsible conduct. Media must behave else it will lose all respect and credibility. IBN 7 that was earlier known as Channel 7 is resorting to the cheap sensationalism which was the hallmark of Dainik Jagran but the fact that it is part of the bouquet of news channels headed by Rajdeep Sardesai, makes it even more shocking and unbelievable. Press Council too needs to act.

Sensationalism sells. And that's the buzzword in media today. The race among TV channels isn't to provide the best news coverage, but to provide the best TRP graphs to viewers. Some discerning viewers may be able to make to make fact from fiction, but for the rest who believe in what they're watching as 'news', such programming can be very misleading.

Leave alone cheap sensationalism it has started telling utter lies!
Is there no control like Press Council.Of late they are found to provoke and instigate! Rajdeep are you listening? Just watch this channel for some time in a day and you will feel ashamed that your name is associated with this!
Yes, Sensationalism sells....But at what cost? Kya har keemat mein?

hindi channels are underestimating the hindi viewers. They are pastmasters in fooling the public .They break news when they will to. breaking news has become joke for them. They promote a film as special report. also another interesting fact is whenever india loses a cricket match they show a crowd shouting in various cities and then declare that those particular cities are burning ,for example mumbai is burning, everyone is disguted and so-on.someone should investigate whether these crowds are genuine or paid artistes put up by these sub standard news channels .Some hindi channels have particular timings for breaking news. Also the hindi news anchors often talk loudly with dramatization in hope to attract viewers ,it often reminds me of vegetable sellers who keep on shouting to attract attention.I remember a incident in which news-anchor was relaxing during a interval not realizing that the interval was over and the camera was focussing on him, then when he realized that he was on camera his relaxed face suddenly went pale and then making a tense face he started shouting "namaskar aap dekh rahe hai xyz aur is waqt desh bahut hi dukh me hai ,cricket team ki har hui hai blah blah blah . this shows that they are betraying thier own emotions while reporting and tryng to make news out of nothing. the news anchors should beahve like journalist and not like actors or soon people would see thru thier game
