A court in Madhya Pradesh has directed the police to register a case against India Today group editor Prabhu Chawla, and summoned him for apperance for publishing a report related to lawyers' clash with railway employees in Jabalpur.
In the April 2007 issue of India Today, the report of the incident was published. The lawyers' union president RK Saini had filed the complaint in the court that the magazine published his version without talking to him. In the report, the magazine had held that Saini had apologized for the incident and blamed some lawyers for the attack.
The RPF and Railway employees had a clash with the lawyers in Jabalpur. After Saini approached the court that the magazine published something which he never said and also without talking to him, the court ordered registration of case. After the evidences were examined, the Judicial Magistrate ordered that Chawla and the local reporter should present themselves in the court on the next hearing and a criminal case be registered against them.
