The reporters, two girls, of channel 7 and CNN-IBN, together went to cover a programme and were seen asking Sundarlal Bahuguna about his 'achievements'. They were not aware who this 'guy' was. And when photographers at the spot told them about Chipko Movement, the reply was 'What Chipko?'.
Sometime later the girls were unapologetically saying, "We are fresh graduates so how will we know". True. You don't need to know a bit about anyone in this country as long as you have a mike that you can thrust into anybody's mouth and seek the byte.

yes you are right, for many journalism is about prestige in the society.
It is just about knowingly imitating the unknowingly esyablished style statement of real journos, like wearing a ghadar kurta once ina while.
Wearing those black framed spectacles which were worn in early days by the catract ridden people.
Sadly many journos in my office even don't have the necessary G.K.
Some even don't know what is IQ and EQ let alone Chipko movement.
I pity todays' journalists.
It is all about making others believe that you are an intellectual by style statements.
A woman journo thinks, sorry believs the women's reservation bill was passed in Parliament.
i pity i pity i pity
The problem is that many journalists start from some newpaper and migrate to some profitable portals and come back after 5 or 6 years without even augmneting their knowledge.
i pity i pity i pity
Outright shame.oNE SHOULD MAKE A MANDAtory ALL India gk TEST before let in people o be journos.
And these people talk abt SC/ST "MERIT" issues?
