Jailed for protesting water scarcity

The 14 residents of Nehru Nagar (Delhi) had paid enough bribe to the authorities and their pockets were not deep enough to pay more.

The water hadn't come in the taps for the last seven months and when they protested, they were arrested and sent to Tihar Jail where they spent four days.

It was a story that deserved front page on papers and first lead in news channles but didn't get the due attention. CNN IBN correspondent Arunima did a good job. Though I am told NDTV's Neha had done the story earlier.

Express does story against News Channels' hooliganism & indecency in 'Patna Professor Prem ki Pathshaala case'


It was nice to see Indian Express doing a story on how a Professor's (Matuknath Chaudhary who teaches Hindi) humiliation was turned into a national news story-cum-live soap opera for the audience of television channels.

JP Yadav did the story from Patna. He spoke to district SP who said, 'what I can do when a sea of cameramen barge into Police station". He termed it as media hooliganism. The correspondent also spoke to Ajtak's Senior Special Correspondent who obviously defended that it was a 'story' that was important and had social message.

It was needed for a newspaper to do such a story. Channels can't breach the line and intrude in lives of people. Lately the cameramen have been forcing people to speak and misbehaving. Even if the persons does not respond or resists the manhandling, the cameramen claim 'media se dur-vyavhar kiya gaya'. This can't go on for long. But the important thing is that print media is writing about it. We can't allow it just because they are also media.
